The purpose of the Regional Assessment Network (RAN) is to serve as communicators and staff developers to districts and County Offices of Education on changes and issues related to state standards, assessment and accountability. RAN meets six times a year with the Standards and Assessment Division of the California Department of Education (CDE) for updates on the assessment and accountability systems.
The role of RAN is to:
1. Facilitate two-way communication between the field and the California Department of Education concerning the development and implementation of the California Assessment and Accountability systems.
2. Provide information to County Offices of Education and districts in each region on new developments and issues in the Assessment and Accountability Systems.
3. Provide professional development to districts and COEs on the Assessment and Accountability Systems and the use of state assessment data. RAN members serve as a resource to COEs by answering questions and providing updates on assessment and accountability in their region. A training series entitled Understanding and Using Assessment and Accountability Data to Support Student Achievement was developed by RAN members for COE staff.
For information about the training or to receive assessment and accountability updates contact your regional RAN member.
